Singer-composer Sanjay Chakraborty arrested for allegedly molesting minor

Prominent singer and composer Sanjay Chakraborty was arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly molesting a minor student after his singing class. He was arrested in Mumbai after he evaded police for more than two months.
Chakraborty is facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was produced before Alipore court on Wednesday and sent to police custody till November 18.
The alleged molestation incident took place last June.
Chakraborty took singing classes at a yoga institute located beside a high school. It has been alleged that Chakraborty molested a 15-year-old girl student at the yoga institute after one of his classes. He waited for the class to be over, and after everybody else had left, Chakraborty allegedly touched the girl’s private parts and outraged her modesty.
The teenager was badly traumatised due to the incident and her parents had to take her to Bengaluru for treatment.
As per sources, during the treatment, the girl spoke about the entire incident to her doctor for the first time. In September, after her parents came to know about the incident, they mailed their complaint letter to Belgharia police station in North 24 Parganas district. The police lodged a zero FIR and transferred the case to Charu Market police station in Kolkata for investigation as the alleged crime took place in their jurisdiction.
An FIR was then registered against Sanjay Chakroborty under the POCSO Act.
A police source says, “The accused was given several notices to appear before the investigating officer to be questioned in connection with the case. But he neither appeared at the police station nor cooperated with the investigation.”
Police then launched multiple raids in search of the accused. After several attempts, Kolkata Police received intel and finally tracked down Sanjay Chakraborty’s location.
Speaking to India Today TV, a police source said, “Once he was spotted in Mumbai, our team reached there and nabbed him red-handed from a flat where he was hiding for a long time.”
